FRATERNITY HAZING

In the article of Danger of Fraternity Hazing, it tells about how students will be asked to join fraternities and sororities. A lot of students want to join a group because they will feel accepted at school. They will have friends, and wont have to go through school an outcast. Not that if you aren't in one you wont be accepted, some students feel they need to have a group of people to be around. There is a period called hazing. It has gotten worse over the years. Some schools do not allow for hazing to be happening but they find ways to make pledges do certain things. There have been some events that have led to death of some pledges. It is an embarrasing time and may cause problems but that is how the fraternities know who wants to be a true member. Joining a fraternity is a big commitment, but you will always be considered a brother if you make it all the way through.

STORIES OF FRATERNITY HAZING

The newspaper article on hazing took place at N.S State University. The fraternities made the pledges run in and out of fraternity and sorority houses naked. This was a form of hazing. It is a lot of mental things but it also involves some physical things to. I would know. Some of the Greek life faculty saw these events take place within the premises which resulted in a closure of the frat house for a 1 year period. After they pay all their dues, due their time, and apologize to the Greek life organization, they will regain their charter.

  • The newspaper article about the Duke hazing is about a student who needed hospitalization but was not given it. The brothers threw cold water on him and since he was in a state of shock they threw hot water on him which put him a bigger state of shock. The brothers knew he was not in good shape but refused to do what they needed to do. The warm and cold water combination was not good for his health but he was not given proper treatment.

  • The article on hazing, it takes place at Chico State University in California. Matthew Carrington died Feb. 2 2005 because of hazing. The 22 year old has been a good kid in his years. Gabriel Maestretti was homecoming king, volunteer coach, and an alter boy in his early "good years." In the last few years he has been known as hateful and "a mean drunk." Even though he did not do it purposely, he was still involved in it which meant punishment. He served 1 year in prison and his fellow brother served 6 months. Matthew would have turned 22 years old. Him and his family did a lot of stuff together and now he is gone. It will take a lot of time to get even close to forgetting about this horrible tragedy.

A BOOK YOU CAN CHECK OUT ON HAZING!

Deviance and Crime in Colleges and Universities: What Goes on in the Halls of Ivy
In the ebook Deviance and Crime, it talks about crime and illegal things happening in colleges and universities. It talks about the Virginia Tech shootings being bad behavior. Drugs, drinking, harassment, and plagiarism are mentioned in the book. It talks about fraternity hazing and binge drinking, plagiarism with students, and bad behavior with coaches with sports. Improvement is discussed within the book as well. The big thing that it discusses the most is pressures with peers and other individual problems. It talks about how students give in to things that know they should not do. Be responsible is a big factor. The book concludes that this is not a book a student would want to write because of it comparing it to the world we are living in.
